Job Description

Mid-Level Backend & DevOps Engineer | Cybersecurity Platform
Full-Time · Engineering

Are you a hands-on engineer who thrives at the intersection of robust backend development and resilient infrastructure? Do you have a passion for building secure, scalable systems that power critical cybersecurity solutions? We're seeking a dynamic Mid-Level Backend & DevOps Engineer to join our fast-moving team and take ownership across our entire stack.

Your Mission
We're building the future of cybersecurity, and we move at warp speed. As our Backend & DevOps Engineer, you won't just be closing tickets – you'll be instrumental in architecting, building, and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that keep our platform secure and performant. This is a role for an owner, a problem-solver who asks the right questions and brings innovative ideas to the table, whether it's optimizing application code or streamlining our deployment pipelines.
You'll split your time between crafting elegant production Python code, owning critical REST APIs, wrangling our data with MongoDB and PostgreSQL, and ensuring our AWS environment is running flawlessly. If you're ready to make a significant impact and debug deployment issues without waiting for anyone else, you've found your home.

What You'll Be Building & Owning

Backend Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Python-based backend services and REST APIs that power our platform.
Own and optimize complex data models and query performance across MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases.
Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code and actively participate in our collaborative code review process.
Develop internal tooling and automation scripts to empower and accelerate the engineering team's efficiency.
Containerize services using Docker, managing and debugging Dockerfiles and Compose configurations for seamless deployments.
Quickly debug and resolve application-layer issues in direct collaboration with our engineering peers.

DevOps & Infrastructure

Administer and optimize our entire AWS environment, covering critical services like EC2, ECS, RDS, IAM, and comprehensive networking.
Build, maintain, and enhance robust CI/CD pipelines, managing both self-hosted and cloud build agents to ensure rapid, reliable deployments.
Own our observability stack with Datadog, from crafting insightful dashboards and alerts to managing log pipelines and key metrics.
Contribute to the management of cloud-native services like Elasticsearch and Kafka, with a keen focus on deployment, monitoring, and performance.
Implement and champion DevSecOps best practices, including rigorous access control, secure secret management, comprehensive auditing, and proactive certificate renewals.
Maintain stringent SOC 2 compliance controls, actively contributing to our audit readiness and continuous security posture improvement.
Craft clear, concise technical documentation that truly informs, and lead incident retrospectives to drive continuous reliability improvements.

Who You Are & What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

4-5 years of hands-on experience in backend engineering and/or DevOps, with significant, demonstrable time spent in both disciplines.
Proven expertise in production Python: developing robust services, designing scalable REST APIs, and writing impactful scripting and automation.
Strong SQL proficiency combined with practical, hands-on experience with MongoDB.
Mastery of Docker for containerization; comfortable writing, debugging, and optimizing Dockerfiles and Compose configurations.
Solid understanding of AWS fundamentals: EC2, ECS, RDS, IAM, and networking principles.
Practical CI/CD experience with platforms like GitHub Actions or similar modern tools.
Exposure to SOC 2 compliance or equivalent experience with critical security controls.
Exceptional troubleshooting instincts, capable of rapidly diagnosing and resolving issues across both application and infrastructure layers.
You pride yourself on writing technical documentation that is clear, actionable, and actually gets read.

Bonus Points If You Have

Experience with Kubernetes or ECS Fargate in a production environment.
Familiarity with threat intelligence platforms or general cybersecurity SaaS products.
Direct experience with Datadog or other comparable enterprise observability tooling.
A strong background in DevSecOps or dedicated security engineering roles.
Prior experience in a startup or other fast-moving engineering environment.
