About the Role: Senior Security Engineer
Are you a hands-on builder passionate about architecting robust cyber defenses from the ground up? Plaud is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to own our Security Operations, Detection, and Response foundation. This isn't about inheriting an existing program or a pre-written runbook; it's about pioneering our cyber defense capability from scratch.
You will be instrumental in architecting our core security infrastructure, authoring high-fidelity detection logic, implementing Detection-as-Code (DaC) practices, and establishing the incident response playbooks that will safeguard our infrastructure and ensure our SOC 2 Type II audit readiness. If you thrive on automating routine triage, leading cross-functional incident response, and consistently meeting strict SLAs, this is your opportunity to build and lead.
What You Will Do
Architect Cyber Defense & Telemetry Integration: Design, deploy, and manage our entire core security stack from the ground up. This includes, but is not limited to, SIEM, EDR, and NTA. Establish reliable ingestion pipelines for critical telemetry across cloud environments (AWS/GCP), SaaS applications, and endpoint layers.
Pioneer Detection Engineering: Author, deploy, and continuously fine-tune detection rules meticulously mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Your focus will be on maintaining high-fidelity coverage while aggressively reducing false positives and championing advanced Detection-as-Code practices.
Own Incident Response & SOAR: Take full ownership of the end-to-end incident response lifecycle. Act as Incident Commander for critical P1/P2 events, progressively develop automated playbooks for core incident categories, and drive operational execution to consistently meet stringent SLAs for Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Respond (MTTR).
Integrate AI-Driven SecOps: Seamlessly embed Large Language Models (LLMs) directly into our daily security workflows. Utilize AI tools to summarize complex security alerts, generate initial detection rule logic, and automate the drafting of SOAR playbooks, enhancing efficiency and intelligence.
Ensure SOC 2 Type II Operational Evidence: Produce and meticulously maintain the continuous evidence package essential for our upcoming SOC 2 Type II audit. You will own the CC7 (Monitoring & Detection) domain, encompassing log retention standards, alert records, and monthly SecOps performance reporting to leadership.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience We Look Fo
Proven Experience: 3+ years of hands-on security engineering experience with demonstrable depth in security operations, including SIEM, incident response, SOAR, detection engineering, and threat hunting.
Builder Mentality: A proven track record of building security infrastructure from scratch, encompassing tool selection, baseline configuration, and policy definition, without relying on legacy runbooks.
Technical Depth: Strong working knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK framework, experience with custom log source integration, and proficiency in incident severity matrix mapping.
SLA & IR Proficiency: Extensive experience managing incident response lifecycles and expertly tuning workflows to consistently meet strict MTTD/MTTR SLAs.
Compliance Familiarity: Working knowledge of SOC 2 Type II control requirements, specifically CC7 (Monitoring & Detection), and the operational evidence standards expected by third-party auditors.
AI Fluency: Routinely uses LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) as an integral part of daily security workflows for tasks such as alert summarization, rule generation, or automation. Note: You will be asked to demonstrate your practical AI usage from the last two weeks during the interview process.
