Job Description

AI Red Team Expert (Freelance) - Join the Fight Against AI Vulnerabilities!

Ready to break things? LILT is revolutionizing how the world communicates through AI, and we need your expertise to ensure our AI systems are secure and resilient. Join our elite team of freelance AI Red Team experts and help us build the next generation of trustworthy AI.

At LILT, we're on a mission to make information accessible to everyone, regardless of language. We're trusted by industry leaders like Intel, Canva, the US Department of Defense, and more, and backed by top-tier investors like Sequoia and Intel Capital. We are at the forefront of a $50B+ market, redefining translation with AI.

The Mission:
As an AI Red Team expert, you'll be on the front lines, proactively identifying vulnerabilities in our AI systems, including Large Language Models (LLMs), multimodal models, inference services, RAG/embeddings, and product integrations. This isn't just about finding bugs; it's about thinking like an adversary to uncover weaknesses and help us build stronger defenses.

What You'll Do:
Craft creative and adversarial prompts and scenarios to test model guardrails.
Explore innovative ways to bypass restrictions and uncover hidden vulnerabilities.
Systematically document your findings and collaborate with engineers and safety researchers to improve system defenses.
Stay ahead of the curve on emerging AI threats and red teaming techniques.

What You'll Need:
Deep Generative AI Knowledge: A solid understanding of generative AI models, their architectures, training processes (including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and RLHF), and potential failure modes.
Cybersecurity & Threat Modeling Prowess: Expertise in cybersecurity principles, threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and penetration testing. Ability to identify attack vectors, simulate real-world threats, and understand the potential impact of an attack.
Data Analysis & NLP Skills: Strong analytical skills to dissect model outputs, identify biases or errors, and recognize patterns. A background in Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a plus.
Ethical Hacking Mindset: A commitment to using your skills ethically for defensive purposes and responsible disclosure.
Core Tech Skills:
Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, or a related field.
Advanced English proficiency (C1 or above).
Adversarial thinking and a passion for breaking things (in a good way!).
Knowledge of common model vulnerabilities (prompt injection, prompt-history leakage, data exfiltration via RAG).
Hands-on experience in AI/ML security, evaluation, and red teaming, especially with LLMs, AI agents, and RAG pipelines.
Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new challenges, and work with complex guidelines.
Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Familiarity with AI red-teaming frameworks such as garak or PyRIT.

Bonus Points:
Experience with physical-world adversarial testing.
Expertise in containerization and CI/CD security tools, especially Docker.
Proficiency in offensive exploitation and exploit development.
Skilled in reverse engineering using tools like Ghidra or equivalents.
Expertise in network and application security, including web application security.
Knowledge of operating system security concepts such as Linux privilege escalation and Windows internals.
Familiarity with secure coding practices for full-stack development.

The Perks:
Competitive Rates: Get paid for your expertise, with rates up to $55/hour based on your skills and experience.
Flexible Schedule: Part-time, remote, freelance work that fits around your commitments.
Cutting-Edge Experience: Work on advanced AI projects and gain valuable experience to boost your portfolio.
Real Impact: Influence how future AI models understand and communicate.

Our Story

Our founders, Spence and John, met at Google working on Google Translate. As researchers at Stanford and Berkeley, they both worked on language technology to make information accessible to everyone. While together at Google, they were amazed to learn that Google Translate wasn’t used for enterprise products and services inside the company. The quality just wasn’t there. So they set out to build something better. LILT was born.

LILT has been a machine learning company since its founding in 2015. At the time, machine translation didn’t meet the quality standard for enterprise translations, so LILT assembled a cutting-edge research team tasked with closing that gap. While meeting customer demand for translation services, LILT has prioritized investments in Large Language Models, human-in-the-loop systems, and now agentic AI.

With AI innovation accelerating and enterprise demand growing, the next phase of LILT’s journey is just beginning.

Our Tech

What sets our platform apart:
Brand-aware AI that learns your voice, tone, and terminology to ensure every translation is accurate and consistent
Agentic AI workflows that automate the entire translation process from content ingestion to quality review to publishing
100+ native integrations with systems like Adobe Experience Manager, Webflow, Salesforce, GitHub, and Google Drive to simplify content translation
Human-in-the-loop reviews via our global network of professional linguists, for high-impact content that requires expert review
