About the Role: Security Engineer - Detection & Response

As a Security Engineer specializing in Detection & Response, you'll work alongside OpenAI's world-class engineers and researchers, securing the transformative AI technologies of tomorrow. You'll play a crucial role in detecting insider threats and shaping controls to protect OpenAI's most valuable assets. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the security of cutting-edge AI development.

What You'll Do:
Innovate: Design and build state-of-the-art Detection and Response infrastructure, automating end-to-end detection and investigation workflows.
Detect: Develop, measure, and fine-tune detection rules to ensure effective and sustainable security operations.
Protect: Lead projects across OpenAI's entire technology stack, focusing on mitigating insider threats like access abuse and intellectual property theft, and addressing emerging risks within AI infrastructure.
Collaborate: Partner with cross-functional teams, including HR, Legal, and peer investigative units, providing technical expertise and evidence to support investigations.
Research: Collaborate on groundbreaking AI research and leverage AI to continuously improve OpenAI's overall security posture.

What Makes You a Great Fit:
Experience: 5+ years of experience in a detection/response or insider-risk role. We're looking for both mid-level and senior candidates.
Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with operating systems and platforms like macOS, Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes, along with experience in cloud infrastructure.
Threat Intelligence: Strong understanding of modern adversary tactics and attack paths, data exfiltration techniques, and experience running and leading incident response efforts.
Scripting: Proficiency in a scripting language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
Project Management: Ability to independently manage and execute projects, balancing preventative controls with user experience, and prioritizing efforts for maximum risk reduction.
Passion: A strong desire to secure transformative technology and the ability to adapt traditional security frameworks to the unique challenges of AI infrastructure.
