About the Role
As a Security Engineer specializing in Detection & Response, you'll be on the front lines, working alongside OpenAI's world-class engineers and researchers to secure our cutting-edge AI technologies. You'll play a pivotal role in building, operating, and defending our systems, with a focus on all aspects of Detection & Response infrastructure and operations. This is an opportunity to be a security generalist, contributing to a wide range of security initiatives and directly impacting the safety and reliability of our AI.
This role may be based in Sydney, Australia, Tokyo, Japan or Singapore. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
What You'll Do:
Innovate on Detection and Response infrastructure to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Build and maintain tools for managing the entire lifecycle of detection rules.
Develop, measure, and fine-tune detection rules to ensure effective and sustainable security operations.
Automate manual response processes to improve efficiency and reduce response times.
Ensure comprehensive visibility and control of OpenAI's endpoint fleet (macOS, Windows).
Drive security improvements across identity access and management (IAM), device management, productivity software, and our use of public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure).
Drive projects across major security verticals including: AppSec, InfraSec, OffSec and Detection and Response
Innovate to solve novel security problems
Collaborate on cutting-edge AI research, and use AI to improve OpenAI’s Security posture
You'll Thrive If You Have:
Experience in Security or a Security-adjacent field, demonstrating a passion for protecting complex systems.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and/or other cloud infrastructure platforms.
A solid understanding of modern adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
Proficiency in a scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar) for automation and security tool development.
The ability to empathize and collaborate with colleagues, independently manage and run projects, and prioritize efforts for maximum risk reduction.
