Staff Engineering Manager, Enterprise Security
Are you a visionary engineering leader passionate about building bulletproof security solutions that empower enterprises to trust their most sensitive data? Do you thrive at the intersection of deep technical work, strategic product ownership, and significant business impact? Join us at Mural as a Staff Engineering Manager and lead the charge in defining the future of enterprise security for our growing customer base.
About the Mission
Our Enterprise Security team is at the forefront of building the critical products that enable CISOs and IT admins to confidently deploy Mural across their organizations. This isn't just about features; it's about building the foundation of trust. We own high-impact capabilities like **DLP policy management, real-time SIEM integrations, comprehensive audit logging, data residency controls, and customer-managed encryption**. Each of these capabilities represents a distinct SKU, directly contributing to our enterprise revenue and market position.
This is a pivotal moment for Enterprise Security at Mural. We're investing heavily in this area, giving you a unique opportunity to own its strategic direction, shape the roadmap, and drive its growth as a standalone product area.
Your Impact and Leadership
As the Staff Engineering Manager for Enterprise Security, you won't just manage; you'll lead and architect. You will build and steer the team responsible for Mural's entire enterprise security product suite – features that are instrumental in securing six and seven-figure deals for the company. This role offers P&L-level visibility, ensuring your team's output directly translates to Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
In your first year, you'll be instrumental in shipping critical **DLP and real-time SIEM integrations**, solidifying Enterprise Security's identity, and partnering closely with a seasoned Product Manager to translate deep customer insights into robust, market-leading solutions. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting technical and business legacy.
What You'll Do
Drive Hands-On Technical Excellence: Spend 30-40% of your time contributing to the codebase, setting the highest technical bar for enterprise-grade security products, and ensuring impeccable quality. For our enterprise customers, there are no second chances on trust.
Execute the Strategic Security Roadmap: Lead the delivery of critical capabilities like **DLP policy management and real-time SIEM integrations** within your first 6-12 months, meticulously aligning with the real-world needs of CISOs.
Cultivate a High-Performing Team: Define and champion the identity of Enterprise Security as a distinct product area. Establish key metrics for success (adoption, deal win rates, ARR from security SKUs) and craft the roadmap that fuels continuous enterprise customer acquisition and retention.
Forge Deep Product Partnerships: Collaborate as a true peer with your Product Manager. You'll actively shape the product vision, influencing what gets built based on technical feasibility and customer feedback, and ultimately owning the decision on what reaches production.
Ensure Enterprise-Grade Operational Standards: Maintain unwavering operational excellence for your services, meeting and exceeding the audit, compliance, and uptime expectations that enterprise customers demand. Secure features must be resilient and reliable to foster trust.
What You'll Bring
Proven Enterprise Security Product Experience (Required): You have a demonstrable history of building security capabilities for CISO and IT admin personas, specifically with **DLP, SIEM integrations, access controls, audit logging, or similar**. You possess an innate understanding of the enterprise buyer, the complex compliance landscape, and why "good enough" simply isn't an option.
Deep Technical Leadership: 5+ years shipping production code, ideally with **Node.js/TypeScript and React**, though we welcome strong engineers from other modern stacks who are fast learners. You can confidently lead technical decisions and remain hands-on enough to identify and address issues proactively.
Effective Engineering Management: 2+ years managing a team of at least 3 engineers, with a strong track record of mentoring high-performing teams that deliver complex products, not just isolated features.
Outcome-Oriented & AI-Fluent: You're either actively leveraging AI tools throughout the development lifecycle or eager to make them a core part of your and your team's workflow. This forward-thinking approach is fundamental at Mural.
Unwavering Ownership & Pathfinding: You take full accountability for your team's outcomes, providing clarity and direction to your engineers even when the path forward requires innovation. You define the metrics that matter and relentlessly drive towards them.
Remote-First Expertise: You excel in an asynchronous communication environment, work transparently (e.g., Slack, documentation, Mural boards), and adeptly build team cohesion in a distributed setting.
Nice to Have
Experience with critical compliance frameworks relevant to enterprise customers (**SOC2, FedRAMP, GDPR**) from a product perspective.
Background in integrations with popular enterprise security tooling (e.g., **Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel**).
Prior experience guiding a company through the transition from SMB to enterprise markets.
