The Opportunity: Security Architect

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and experienced Security Architect to be the guardian of Blockstream’s enterprise products and critical infrastructure. In this high-impact role, you will be instrumental in defining, implementing, and overseeing secure systems and applications, ensuring our groundbreaking technologies remain resilient against an evolving threat landscape.

You are a full-stack engineering maestro with a profound focus on backend security, boasting a deep understanding of secure application design. Your background includes significant experience building or securing high-stakes platforms within fintech, banking, or blockchain domains. You will be a trusted partner to our product, DevOps, and engineering teams, integrating robust security measures seamlessly without ever compromising innovation or performance.

What You'll Be Doing:

Architect and drive the overarching security strategy for applications, services, and infrastructure across Blockstream's diverse ecosystem.
Collaborate intensely with engineering teams to design and implement inherently secure software systems, with a particular emphasis on fortifying backend and data security.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks through comprehensive threat modeling, rigorous risk assessments, and in-depth security reviews for both nascent and established products.
Champion and enforce secure coding practices, develop robust security frameworks, and streamline secure code review processes.
Partner with DevOps specialists to harden cloud and container security, bolster CI/CD pipelines, and refine access control mechanisms.
Evaluate, select, and integrate cutting-edge security tools for automated code scanning, sophisticated vulnerability management, and swift incident response.
Mentor and empower engineers, elevating their proficiency in secure application development best practices.
Actively monitor and anticipate emerging security trends, compliance standards, and advanced attack vectors, especially within the dynamic fintech and blockchain sectors.

What You'll Bring to Blockstream:

10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering or dedicated security architecture roles.
A robust full-stack engineering background underpinned by profound backend security expertise (proficiency in Python, Go, C/C++, Rust, or similar high-performance languages).
Demonstrable track record of successfully designing and securing complex systems for enterprise-grade fintech, banking, or blockchain environments.
In-depth knowledge of cryptographic principles, authentication mechanisms, and advanced key management strategies.
Hands-on, practical experience with cloud security platforms (AWS, GCP, or equivalent).
Familiarity with contemporary threat modeling methodologies, secure SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) principles, and leading application security frameworks (OWASP, NIST, ISO 27001).
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex security risks and propose clear, actionable solutions to both highly technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves):

Direct experience with Bitcoin, Lightning Network, or other blockchain protocols.
Active contributions to open-source security tools or projects.
Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, OSCP, CEH, or equivalent) are a valuable asset.
