Job Description

Pioneering Security Engineer (Founding Role)

At Artemis Security, we don't just build cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions for our customers; we embody the very principles we advocate. As a cybersecurity company, our internal security isn't merely a checkbox—it's the ultimate testament to the effectiveness and integrity of everything we sell. Our customers entrust us with their most sensitive telemetry, which means our own internal environment must operate at a security bar higher than anyone else's.

We're seeking our very first Security Engineer to architect, implement, and own Artemis's internal security posture from the ground up. This is a hands-on, senior Individual Contributor role where you will be the technical visionary and owner of our security systems, controls, and programs, safeguarding the company from the inside out. You'll also hold critical ownership over our IT environment, collaborating closely with our external IT provider.

Reporting directly to leadership and partnering closely with our founders, engineering, and product security teams, you will have the unparalleled autonomy to build our security foundation the right way, from day one. This isn't about managing a team; it's about building an industry-leading program that sets the standard.

Your Mission: Secure Artemis, Inside and Out

Security (Primary Focus)

End-to-End Ownership: Architect and manage Artemis's internal security posture across all domains, including endpoint security, identity and access management (IAM), network security, email security, and cloud security for our corporate environment.
Identity & Access Strategist: Design and implement our comprehensive identity strategy, encompassing Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), conditional access policies, and privileged access management (PAM).
Vulnerability Management Pioneer: Establish and operate our vulnerability management program, covering patching strategies, robust endpoint hardening, and continuous security monitoring.
Incident Response Lead: Drive incident response for all internal security events, from initial detection and containment through thorough investigation and post-incident review.
Compliance & Certification Architect: Lead our compliance and certification efforts (SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and future certifications), including scope definition, evidence collection, and seamless engagement with external auditors.
Security Awareness Champion: Build and manage our security awareness program, delivering engaging ongoing training, realistic phishing simulations, and role-specific security education.
Policy & Documentation Maestro: Define, maintain, and evolve our security policies, standards, and internal documentation to scale effectively with our growth.
Vendor Risk Guardian: Own vendor risk management and conduct third-party security reviews for all tools and partners integrated into our ecosystem.
Strategic Alignment: Partner with product security and engineering leadership to ensure seamless alignment between internal corporate security and our product security initiatives.
Leverage Our Innovation: You'll be working hands-on with Artemis, the best security tool in the world, to secure Artemis itself!

IT (Secondary but Critical)

IT Architecture Steward: Own the overarching IT architecture that supports our secure and productive environment.
Provider Selection & Management: Evaluate, select, and manage our external IT provider, making strategic changes as necessary.
Tooling & Configuration Expert: Manage the critical tools and configurations that ensure team productivity and security across Google Workspace, Slack, our identity provider, Mobile Device Management (MDM), and related systems.
Physical Security Contributor: Contribute to the design and security of our office network, Audio/Video (AV) systems, and physical access controls.

What You Bring

Proven Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in security engineering, IT security, or corporate security, with demonstrable ownership of internal security programs at a top-tier software or tech company.
Deep Technical Expertise: Profound knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Identity and Access Management (IAM), Endpoint Security, Cloud Security (AWS/GCP/Azure), or SaaS Security.
Compliance Fluency: Hands-on experience with SOC 2 and/or ISO 27001 audits, including scoping, evidence collection, and successfully working with auditors.
Attacker Mindset: Strong understanding of modern attacker tradecraft; you know how real breaches occur, not just what frameworks prescribe.
Incident Response Leadership: Direct experience leading incident response for internal security events, from initial detection through post-mortem analysis.
Tooling Acumen: Familiarity with modern security tooling across EDR, SIEM, IAM, MDM, DLP, email security, and vulnerability management.
Systems Thinker: A robust ability for systems thinking, allowing you to balance rigorous security principles with the fast-paced reality of an early-stage startup.
Clear Communicator: An exceptional communicator who can articulate complex security tradeoffs to leadership and non-technical teams effectively.
Autonomous Builder: Comfort operating with significant autonomy in an early-stage environment, capable of building foundational programs from scratch without an existing team structure.

Bonus Points Fo

Prior experience as the first or founding internal security hire at a startup.
A background as a practitioner in cybersecurity (e.g., SOC analyst, threat detection engineer, red team, or product security).
Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, OSCP, GCIA, GCIH, CISA).
Experience with security operations tooling that Artemis itself sells (e.g., SIEM, XDR, detection & response platforms).
Familiarity with regulated frameworks beyond SOC 2 and ISO (e.g., FedRAMP, HIPAA, PCI, GDPR).

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a highly competitive compensation package, including a base salary of $180,000 - $230,000 per year, complemented by a top-of-market equity component. Final offer amounts are determined by a variety of factors, including a candidate’s professional experience, skills, and market conditions.
