Senior Security Engineer - Detection and Response

Ready to defend the digital frontier? Join 1Password and safeguard millions of users.

At 1Password, we're not just building a password manager – we're pioneering Extended Access Management (XAM) and creating a safer digital future for over 165,000 businesses and millions of individuals. As one of cybersecurity's most trusted and loved brands, we're looking for passionate security professionals to join our ranks. If you're driven by curiosity, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to make a real impact, read on.

As a Senior Security Engineer on our Detection and Response team, you'll be on the front lines, developing and implementing strategies to detect and respond to security threats across the entire 1Password ecosystem. This is a high-impact role where you'll have real ownership and the opportunity to shape how we secure 1Password at scale.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US. Embrace the flexibility of remote work while contributing to a global security mission.

What You'll Do:
Design, build, and continuously improve threat detections across 1Password’s infrastructure, product, internal tools, and corporate environments.
Own end-to-end projects, from scoping to delivery, aligned with team OKRs and 1Password’s broader security strategy.
Collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, and IT teams to improve security visibility, logging, and response readiness.
Participate in a shared on-call rotation, with occasional evening or weekend availability for critical incidents.
Contribute to team excellence by writing playbooks, mentoring teammates, and shaping a strong, high-trust security culture.
Support cross-functional security initiatives, including vendor assessments, audits, and tabletop exercises.

What You Bring:
5+ years in technical engineering roles, with 3+ years focused in security, across Detection Engineering, Incident Response, Digital Forensics, or Threat Intelligence.
Proven incident response leadership, with a blameless, data-informed approach to resolving complex security events and mentoring others through high-stress situations.
Hands-on experience with detection engineering and automation, including SIEMs, SOAR platforms, Detection-as-Code practices, and building or tuning behavior analytics.
Knowledge of threat actor TTPs and current threat landscape to perform threat hunting and develop threat-based detections.
Experience with runtime security, EDR, and forensic analysis tools on various operating systems.
Knowledge of cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) including security best practices for deployment of cloud services.
Proficiency in scripting and infrastructure tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines) to support security operations, automation, and internal tooling.
Collaborative mindset, with excellent communication skills, ownership mentality, and a commitment to psychological safety and team development.

Benefits & Perks:
We believe in rewarding hard work. Here’s a glimpse of what we offer:
Health and wellbeing: Maternity and parental leave top-up programs, generous PTO, and four company-wide wellness days.
Growth and future: Company equity for all full-time employees, retirement matching program, and a free 1Password account.
Community: Paid volunteer days, employee-led inclusion and belonging programs and ERGs, and peer-to-peer recognition through Bonusly.

Compensation:
